Alpha-Level Training: A Simple Way to Calm and Focus the Mind
In the Silva Method, alpha-level practice begins with relaxation. The goal is not to force the mind into a special state. The goal is to become quiet enough to think, imagine, and choose more clearly.
The Technique
Try this simple version when you have five quiet minutes.
- Sit comfortably and close your eyes.
- Take three slow breaths and let your shoulders soften.
- Count down gently from 10 to 1.
- With each number, imagine your body becoming calmer.
- Rest quietly for one or two minutes.
- Before opening your eyes, say inwardly: “I return calm, clear, and refreshed.”
This is not about perfection. Some days the mind settles quickly. Other days it wanders. The practice is simply to return without frustration.

Common Mistakes
- Trying too hard: Relaxation responds better to invitation than pressure.
- Expecting instant results: Let the practice build quietly over days and weeks.
- Judging wandering thoughts: Wandering is normal. Gently return to the count or the breath.
Your 7-Day Practice
Practice once per day for seven days. Keep it short. Five minutes is enough. At the end of each session, write one sentence about how you feel.
