Battle Out of Time

Battle Out of Time follows Dion Burke, a modern archaeologist obsessed with the Minoan civilization, who uses a risky device called the time inverter to travel back to Bronze Age Crete. His goal is to understand the fall of Knossos firsthand, but he quickly finds himself entangled in palace intrigues, ancient myths, and deadly dangers. Armed with a 1954 revolver and a wristwatch, Burke navigates a world where gods, monsters, and alien forces blur together.

Burke’s arrival disrupts the palace of King Minos, where he confronts hostile figures like the drunken and treacherous Theseus and the proud yet fearful princess Ariadne. Despite her suspicions, Ariadne becomes an uneasy ally, guiding Burke through the maze-like palace to Daedalus, the master craftsman, who reveals a secret entrance to the Labyrinth through the palace's drainage system.

As Burke prepares to enter the Labyrinth, he is captured by Theseus, who plans to betray Ariadne and escape with her. Burke warns of an impending destruction of Knossos by midnight, but Theseus dismisses him and leaves him unconscious in the tunnels. Awakening bound in darkness, Burke uses his ingenuity and a lighter to free himself and confront the Minotaur in the heart of the Labyrinth.

In a brutal fight, Burke discovers the Minotaur is not a mythic beast but a microcephalic giant controlled by a parasitic alien octopod. Using oil jars as weapons, he disrupts and destroys the alien entity, triggering the collapse and burning of the Labyrinth. Outside, he witnesses the palace engulfed in flames and a mysterious blue-white metallic spaceship emerge from Mount Lasithi, hinting at an alien influence over Minoan culture.

Burke reunites with Ariadne, who has cleverly escaped Theseus by sending her maid disguised in her place. Together, they plan to leave for Lemnos and build a future beyond the ruins. Burke reflects on his possible role as the Dionysus of legend, the blending of myth and science fiction, and the cost of his actions on history. The story ends with a mix of hope and uncertainty as dawn breaks over a world forever changed.

This narrative blends tense action, ancient myth, and speculative science fiction, exploring how obsession, survival, and identity play out when past and future collide. Burke’s journey is as much about confronting external threats as it is about wrestling with his own place in a tangled web of fate, legend, and alien intervention.
